Veneer

Around 2000 BC, the ancient Egyptians have invented veneer to be able to use the most beautiful parts of a precious tree as efficiently as possible. The secret of veneer lies in its manufacturing process: only the most beautiful parts of a tree are cut into gauzy slices, while the aesthetically inferior pieces are fragmented and compressed into chipboard. Originally created as a luxury good by the Egyptians, veneer has suffered slander over the years, was said to be “wood for the poor” and was generally frowned upon. Quite the contrary is the case, though. From an ecology and sustainability perspective, veneer is the most efficient way of processing and using wood to finally achieve a unique product.
